DEMONSTRATIONS

Demonstrations are in addition to the regular conference and exhibit hall and are intended to present and highlight current technical possibilities within the framework of the ITS themes in an interactive way.

The indoor demonstration area is located on Level 1, in the Exhibit Hall at Booth #2209. The outdoor demonstration area is located on Level 2 (Street Level), Layby Area, South College St Convention Center Entrance.

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) and Pronto, a leading safe-driving autonomy company, will be hosting the first of a series of roadshows at ITS America 2021 Annual Meeting. The roadshow will highlight two demonstrations of automated driving systems developed under the Trucking Fleet Concept of Operations (CONOPS) project, a four-year, $10 million effort sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Federal Highway Administration.

The VTTI and Pronto roadshow will feature:

  • Interactive visualizations of a prototype truck automated driving systems (ADS) database and map created from data collected during the ADS cross-country demonstration.
  • Presentations highlighting a “behind the scenes” look at the ADS cross-country drive, including preparation, planning, training, data inputs, and real-world applications.
    • To be held Wednesday, 12/8 and Thursday, 12/9 at 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM; Friday, 12/10 at 11:00 AM
  • Displays of real-time data streams collected from the ADS-equipped truck during the cross-country drive.
  • Interactive live chat with a Pronto engineer who is monitoring the cross-country data collection from the ADS truck cab in real time.
  • Slideshow, drawn from the port queuing demonstration, illustrating how ADS-equipped trucks can relieve major congestion points in daily port operations.

NCDOT Integrated Mobility Division is partnering with Perrone Robotics to demonstrate a 19-passenger vehicle operating autonomously along a 1.5 mile loop within uptown Charlotte. The demonstration will provide a real-world example on how autonomous vehicle technology and innovations can empower and connect communities. Perrone Robotics will showcase their approach of utilizing Perrone Robotics’ TONY© Autonomous Retrofit Kit that integrates into any vehicle type for any job application. The kit creates a turnkey fully autonomous vehicle solution for designated zones on vehicles that conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). The demonstration will also showcase the broadcasting of connected vehicle technology including signal phasing and timing (SPaT) information through an Applied Information deployment of field infrastructure communicating with iPad on the vehicle.

Connected Wise is an innovative startup that aims to tackle the deployment challenges of connected automated vehicles, particularly in rural and underserved areas using machine vision and smart traffic signs. Connected Wise's technology utilizes artificial intelligence in their low-cost ADAS devices to provide the most advanced safety features for all vehicles. The demonstration will showcase smart traffic sign applications along the public roads that will provide I2V communication for upcoming traffic safety messages such as Pedestrian Crosswalk Ahead, Railroad Crossing Ahead, or provide MAP message for rapidly changing lane geometries (e.g. work zone). The smart signs and surrounding traffic elements will be identified and read by Connected Wise's aftermarket ADAS solution, VisionConnect+, and alert the driver with visual and audio warnings during the demonstration.
