Global transportation leaders will convene in Orlando, Florida under the tagline ‘Mobility Reimagined: Powered by Technology. Designed for People.’

NORWALK, CT — ITS World Congress 2028, one of the world’s largest gatherings of intelligent transportation systems professionals, will bring the global mobility community to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, October 8-12, 2028. Hosted in partnership with ITS America, ITS Asia-Pacific, and ERTICO – ITS Europe and produced by RX, the Congress today announced its theme, “Mobility Reimagined: Powered by Technology. Designed for People.”

The theme reflects a defining opportunity for the transportation industry: to reimagine how people and goods move by integrating technology with clear, human-centered purpose. Across the conference, exhibition, real-time demonstrations, and technical tours, ITS World Congress 2028 will explore how digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, vehicle-to-everything connectivity, automation, advanced air mobility, data, and other emerging solutions can create transportation systems that are safer, smarter, and more resilient.

Event organizers are also pleased to announce that Beth Kigel, Senior Vice President and National Practice Consultant at HNTB, will serve as the 2028 ITS World Congress Board of Directors Chair. A nationally recognized leader in new mobility and smart-city ecosystems, Kigel has worked across the public and private sectors to advance connected infrastructure and emerging transportation technologies. She previously served as a Florida Transportation Commissioner, currently chairs the Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees, and serves on the board of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

“Mobility Reimagined: Powered by Technology. Designed for People. is a call to think bigger about what transportation can do for people and communities,” said Beth Kigel, 2028 ITS World Congress Board of Directors Chair and Senior Vice President and National Practice Consultant at HNTB. “Technology gives us extraordinary tools, but progress is measured by the outcomes we create: safer journeys, better access, stronger connections, and more resilient communities. Orlando and Florida provide the ideal setting for the world to come together, experience innovation in action, and help shape a more human-centered mobility future.”

Florida and Orlando were selected to host ITS World Congress 2028 because of the state’s leadership in testing, deploying, and scaling emerging transportation technologies. With FDOT’s (Florida Department of Transportation) connected and automated vehicle initiatives including the Department’s one-of-a-kind research and testing facility SunTrax, which feature both air and ground sectors, Florida offers a dynamic environment where advanced mobility solutions are developed, evaluated, and accelerated toward real-world deployment. Together, these programs make Orlando an ideal setting for the global transportation community to explore how technology can create safer, smarter, and more connected mobility systems designed around people’s needs.

“It's a true honor to host the 2028 ITS World Congress and Florida looks forward to showcase the transformational work happening in our great state,” said FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “Our state is investing in the infrastructure, research, partnerships, and workforce needed to move emerging technologies from testing to safe, real-world use. The 2028 Congress will be an opportunity to share Florida’s progress, learn from leaders around the world, and advance transportation solutions that are helping to shape the future of transportation.”

The Congress will also extend beyond the convention center through signature networking experiences that showcase Orlando’s energy and hospitality. The VIP Dinner will take place at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar, and the official ITS World Congress Party will be held at House of Blues Orlando at Disney Springs. Additional program, registration, speaker, exhibitor, demonstration, and technical tour details will be announced as the event approaches.
